Pigeon Forge, TN

I recently move to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee from Florida about 2 years ago, and even though I was born and raise around the beach and Gulf of Mexico, I quickly made this my new home. Life is a little different here than I was used to, I liked going to the beach all year round and doing some salt-water fishing just about any time I wanted, so I wasn’t sure that living in the mountains would be very fun.

After living in Pigeon Forge only a few months I soon came to realize this isn’t such a bad place. As a matter of fact the Great Smoky Mountains is a beautiful area with plenty to do. First I decided to check out some of the local hiking spots, which in point came to give me a vast new perspective on mountain living versus beach living.

You see I am a flat footed beach person that very rarely left the comforts of home, which is all of about 10 feet above sea level at most. So I decided to hike the highest mountain here, Clingman’s Dome. Finding myself close to 6,600 feet, I was not accustom to breathing the much thinner air, and was told to take my time while hiking. Taking this advice evidently opened up a variety of beautiful options.

While slowing my pace I was able to take in more of the sites while hiking up the roughed terrain. Which I found to be a blessing for some great photography shots, and up and close wild life opportunities. When I was just hiking to get there I had missed some beautiful vantage points for absolutely amazing photos, and was trying to move so quickly I would scare away and animals that would be around the next bend, whether by the noise beneath my feet or more likely my heavy breathing.

So I learned that hiking wasn’t so bad after all, and now still to this day love to go hiking through the Great Smoky Mountains Park and visiting such sites as Cades Cove and Newfoundland Gap and seeing a vast variety of wildlife from bears to deer, as well as take in all of the awesome views and seasons change.

Sounds like our lives were switched ... I used to live in the mountains, but now find myself in the tropics. The climate change is so dramatic! The Smokies seem like a beautiful place to live.

Great place to visit especially during the Holidays. We stayed in a chalet in the mountains, visited DollyWood and got lost track of time in the Smokys. Good Times!
